These minors should be playing football in the park and getting ready for their school qualifications, not servicing smuggling networks in circumstances we know entail being tied up, abused and mistreated, and penalized by being deprived of meals."

Policy Shifts and Ongoing Concerns

In late 2023, following a long-running judicial process concerning solitary migrant children vanishing from all designated facilities, the procedure of routinely accommodating children in hotels was deemed improper.
