Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
